Wisdom and Warmth during the Pandemics
Never has it been easy for human to survive and thrive. Most of the time, difficulties and challenges are lying on the road to conquer the nature, explore the civilization and overcome the fear of the unknown. Meanwhile, we have to go through countless plagues. It is historically recorded that the dark death happened in Europe in the 14th?century, the second plague pandemic in the 16th century as well as COVID-19 people are fighting with. However, humans have become tougher and wiser instead of death. What is it during the pandemic that supports and encourages people?
? It is wisdom.
Before the Renaissance, Europe experienced the Black Death, a form of plague that decimated the world’s population by 75 million and killed 30%-60% of Europe’s total population. In Boccaccio’s Decameron, people experienced the terrible Black Death and began to advocate science and rationality and pursue the happiness of the life, which is the core idea of the Renaissance — humanism. Humans have long learned to learn from disasters, to explore the world and to learn more about themselves.
? It is warmth
Since the end of 2019, there have been many touching stories in China. It is not because the pandemic that we are not united, brave or dedicated, but the common memory of the Chinese nation that drives us to move forward in the face of the epidemic and to develop all sectors of life. It is not enough to have sufficient supplies. What we need most is humanity, boundless love and ordinary warmth.
? Be positive?and be patient
It is a rare quality to be optimistic in the face of difficulties, patient and calm in tense situations. Newton had returned to the countryside during the great plague, partly to escape it and partly to concentrate on his research. It was during this time that the foundation was laid for Newton’s theory that affected the world profoundly. Although, not everyone is Newton, everybody has their own passion for study and career. Working in silence and solitude, you are bound to succeed. As Su Yiming, 17, the new Winter Olympic champion, puts it: “Hard work never lies.” So, young people, please stay positive and optimistic, patient and calm, waiting for spring.
